Brief Program / Class descriptions:
Beginners - In Beginners classes the children are introduced to various media (pencil, pen, ink, brush, paint) They will learn fundamentals of drawing through games and experimentation. This group class runs from 3:45-4:45 and is for children aged 5 and up who are new to classes with me. There are 3 seats available. There is one more spot available for a beginner for whom a 1/2 hour private class would be most beneficial.
Intermediate - The intermediate class is for children who are familiar with our school, that is they have been attending classes with me for some time and have the basics down pat. In these classes we move on to develop their vocabulary and knowledge of art concepts, that is we begin talking and working on perspective, composition & volume (positive and negative space). The children learn and practice new techniques and develop their capacity to accomplish sustained drawings.
Advanced - The advanced classes are for children who are dedicated young artists ready to take on more complex and sustained art projects. As well as deepening the knowledge base they have developed we begin to focus more on drawing from life; we work withthe still life and move into gesture drawing.
@ Private lessons - Private lessons are appropriate for children who require one on one instruction. Private lessons are recommended for children who have special requirements so therefore enjoy one on one classes more than group classes, and for children who are extremely dedicated young artists developing their art practice.
Painting Classes - Painting classes are open to children who fit the intermediate category of students, if you are unsure if your child fits into the intermediate category please consult with Deb about placement.
Trial Class - The Trial class is a 1/2 hour free class for children who are hesitant about beginning new things, it is a chance for child and parent to meet teacher, get acquainted have a short fun art lesson.
Here at Marks of Perception our aim is bring the individual to the point in their creative development where they are comfortable with themselves, and confident in their creative abilities. To do this we teach new techniques to budding artists. With these techniques we coach the individual to render their perception of the world. Through practice they produce what they desire. Through this process the individual gains confidence in their creativity; satisfaction, and a sense of accomplishment with their work.
Instructor Deborah Wiles, a professional artist, started Marks of Perception, "her own little art school", in 2006 and absolutely loves teaching! Deborah herself graduated from the Ontario College of Art and Design in 2003.
All classes are held in instructor Deb's cozy home studio on Olive Avenue, just 2 blocks from Palmerston school!
Marks of Perception is six years old!
